Robert A Neid, Life Member of VFW Post 8612, Milford 
Robert A. Nied passed away on the 23rd of March, 2015 at the Regional Hospital of Scranton, Hospice unit in Scranton, Pa.
Robert was born in Newark, NJ on October 20, 1926
Robert entered the United States Navy in September 1944 and was discharged on
June 2, 1946, and was a Seabee in the Pacific Fleet with CBMO 625, He was on
Okinawa during the American Invasion and also served in China. Robert had
received the Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal and the China Service Medal and the
Victory Medal.
Upon return to Civilian life, Robert had become a police officer with the Union
New Jersey Police Department and attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Robert was
also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Union, New Jersey from 1947
to 1951. Robert also ran the Nied homestead resort.
Robert had moved and lived in the Blooming Grove Township and was a member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States at Mountain Laurel post
8612 in 1992. He was an active member and held the position of Post Commander
from 1996 until 1998. In 1999 he was the post-Member of the Year and was a
Trustee from 1999 until 2001. Without the help of Robert and his Master
Carpenter skills the post would not have the current place that we call our home.
He had spent many hours at the Columns building, turning an empty basement
into what we now know as our meeting room. Robert had built the meeting room
out of nothing and added the kitchen.
We thank our Comrade in arms Robert A. Nied for his war-time Military Service in
the US Navy. We thank him for his dedication and loyalty to the Mountain Laurel post
8612 – VFW, and we commend him for his 88 years of life filled with
accomplishment. Robert will be greatly missed by each member of this Post who
has fond memories of his time in the post and we extend to his wife Aimee and
the other members of his family out of sincere sympathy. May Robert rest in peace
