W. Rex Kocher, 94, of Bangor, PA, and Bradenton, FL passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Born in Benton, PA, he was the son of the late Guy and Eleanor (Peterman) Kocher. His beloved wife of 72 years, Dorothy (McCobin) Kocher, passed away on April 13, 2020.
Rex was a graduate of Benton High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and was involved in many battles aboard the USS Wedderburn. He was one of a few veterans witness to the Japanese surrender; invited to the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Japanese Surrender. The event was canceled due to Covid. Rex received many commendations, awards, and recognition for his service.
Rex and Dot traveled extensively in the US having visited all 48 contiguous states. Rex loved spending time with his grandchildren and loved watching NASCAR races.
He is survived by his daughter, Candice Ace, and husband John, of Stroudsburg, and two sons, Terry of Bangor, and Randy and his wife Connie of Wind Gap. Also his grandchildren Shane Kocher, Jonathan, Elliott, and Sherri Ace, Heather Steigerwalt, and great-grandchildren Dalton Gallagher, Emily Morin, and Austin Steigerwalt. He was predeceased by a grandson, Mitchell Ace. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Walker and a brother, Gilbert Kocher, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 brothers.
